The Incredible Value Of A Move-In Ready Home!

Move-In Ready homes are more appealing for busy families.  US customers are seeking easier move-in and less maintenance living.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, working hours in the US rose nearly twelve percent between 1973 and 2000.  Combine that with longer commutes, two-income working families, more homework and extra curricular activities and the result is a very busy lifestyle.  Ron Bird, US Economist, says “people feel more overworked than in the past, mainly because other areas of their life are taking up more time.”

With life’s busy challenges moving can be complicated, especially for individuals who are relocating to Charlotte from other parts of the country.  A move often leaves little time for decorating, remodeling or repairs.  Neutral interiors and well-maintained exteriors draw more potential buyers and more frequently receive offers.

So if you are selling your Charlotte home follow a few simple rules to get your home in move-in ready condition.

  • Consider removing any wallpaper.  Before you put your home on the market, take a few evenings or a Saturday to remove any patterned paint or wallpaper.  You may want to hire a professional if you don’t have time to do the work yourself.
  • Think about the color of the paint you choose. Try to select colors that won’t clash, no matter what the potential buyers’ furnishings are like. Shades of beige or tan are softer and more appealing than stark white. Choose tan, cream or a light khaki color if possible.
  • Take care of all minor repairs that can add up to a lot of time for a potential buyer. For example, make sure all electrical outlets have switch plates. Check to make sure there are no drippy faucets or fixtures. Put fresh caulk on tubs, showers and sinks. Clean any carpets. Provide small cans of touch up paint for each room that are well-labeled.
  • If budget and time allows hire a professional cleaning crew and ask your agent to advertise that the home has been professionally cleaned. Ask others for input.
  • Ask friends and family to do a “walk through” to give you tips on possible blind spots. Your agent may also ask colleagues who are accustomed to viewing Charlotte homes for sale to provide feedback.
